Analysis of Behavior Problems in Children
  • Define the behavior.
  • What is the child doing that is bothersome?
  • Is the behavior age appropriate?
  • What purpose,if any, does the behavior serve?
  • When does the behavior occur?  With whom?  Under what conditions? Where does it occur?
  • How long does the behavior last?
  • How often does it occur? How does it resolve?  What makes it go away?
  • How can the situation be modified so that the behavior does not occur?
  • What is the behavior that I want the child to exhibit instead?
  • How can I reinforce that behavior so that it is more likely to occur?
  • How can I punish the unwanted behavior so that it is less likely to occur?

Beyond Therapy Pediatric Group is proud to announce a regular series of parenting lectures to the community entitled: BEYOND PARENTING!

Children don't come with a book!  We all need a little help now and then when it comes to raising children.  Lorie Naef, LCSW will present four lectures each month that every parent needs in their “toolbox” of raising kids!

*Jan. 20:  "My Child Won't Mind!  What Do I Do?"

This class is open to the general public, suitable for parents whose children are ages 3-6yr or children with developmental disabilities under 10yr.  The lecture covers general principles of behavior management with cartoons interjected so we can laugh at ourselves!

* Jan. 27  "Why Is My Child Acting This Way?"

This is a class for parents of children under 12yr who have ADHD, Asperger's Disorder, or other impairments of Executive Function.  Information will be given regarding the nature of Executive Function, reasons why traditional behavior programs usually do not work, and how to coach children to exhibit the correct behavior.

* Feb. 3  "These Kids Are Driving Me Crazy!!"

Open to the general public, this is a class on the management of sibling rivalry.

* Feb. 10  "Mommy, I'm Scared!”

How to get your child to try new things."  This is a class designed for parents whose children have anxiety for some reason: geralized anxiety disorder, separation anxiety, specific phobias, selective mutism, obsessive-compulsive disorder, Asperger's Disorder, High Functioning Autism, or Sensory Processing Dysfunction.  We will discuss the behavioral concepts of shaping and chaining using positive reinforcement of successive approximations.

* Feb. 17 "My Child Won't Mind!  What Do I Do?"

* Feb. 24  "Why Is My Child Acting This Way?"

The cost of attendance is $20 per class payable at admission.  Space is limited to 20 people at a time, first come first serve.  Unless you've paid in advance, a space will not be saved for you.  The lectures are during the lunch hour.  Food is not served, but attendees will be seated around a table and can eat their brown bag lunch during the lecture.  Due to its disruptive nature, latecomers will not be allowed admission.  Lectures are on Fridays from 11:30-1:00, beginning Jan. 20, 2012.  All lectures will be held at Beyond Therapy Pediatric Group.

Don’t forget, SOCIAL SKLLS CLASS  FEB 2 THROUGH MARCH 8, 3:00-4:00.
